How to set your lens and teleconverter
Goal: make the wedge on the map, and the view in 3D, show what your real lens will frame.
Steps
- With the camera pin placed, tap the lens chip on the map to open the lens panel.
- Drag the focal length ruler, or type the value.
- Pick your sensor: Full frame, APS-C or MFT.
- Pick a teleconverter if you will use one: None, 1.4× or 2×.
- On the 2D map, Orientation turns the wedge for an upright or a landscape frame.
- Tap the checkmark in the panel’s header to close it.
In the 3D world, tap the focal length on the left half of the pill at the bottom to open the same panel, or pinch the world: the number glows violet and counts as you pinch, and stays where you let go.
What you will see
- The panel’s big number is the length that frames the shot: 600 mm with a 1.4× converter reads 840 mm, and the header shows the sum, 600 mm x1.4 = 840 mm.
- The lens chip on the map shows that length and the angle of view.
- In 3D the pill reads 840 mm x1.4, and the view changes while your finger is still on the ruler.
Tip
Set the lens before you look for dates. The frame you draw in 3D, and how exact a “spot on” pass is, follow from the lens you will really use.
If something looks off
- The number doesn’t match the lens on my barrel. With a teleconverter on, Viewpoint shows the combined length. Set the converter to None to see the bare lens.
- There is no Orientation row in 3D. The 3D view shows your lens as you hold the phone, so the row is only on the 2D map.
- Undo didn’t change my lens back. A lens change is not an undo step; set it again in the panel.
